Feed your well-being
30th Apr 2020
During these uncertain times, taking the time to prioritise your mental health is really important.
Although it is tempting to ride out isolation by working our way through every Netflix series paired with our favourite snacks, the food we put in our body has a huge impact on our mental well-being. Eating well is linked to improved sleep, increased concentration and productivity, better stress management, adaptability and overall ability to cope better with day-to-day life.
So what does eating well look like?
Variety and Balance. Focus on real whole foods – fruits, vegetables, wholegrains, plant and animal-based proteins, dairy and dairy alternatives, and good fats. These are the foods that are going to fuel our brain and bodies, so we want the majority of our food to come from these groups. P.S. There is absolutely still room for our favourite snacks in there (balance remember), that to is important for our mental well-being!
Routine. Create a new daily routine for yourself during this time, this will help bring you some sense of normality and certainty. Aim for your usual three meals each day and select healthy snack options between meals to keep you going.
Plan your meals. Now is a great time to get into meal planning. Having a plan will help you spend less time in the shops and will also prevent you from buying unnecessary items which often leads to overspending and waste. Not to mention avoid that last minute 'what-am-I-going-to-cook-for-dinner' stress and the inevitable Uber Eats scroll.
Stay connected. Meal times should be social, not spent around the TV as this can lead to mindless overeating. Get creative, cook and enjoy a meal together over Facetime or have a cyber-coffee date!
Hydration. Use this time to create some good habits, including drinking more water – keep a water bottle close by, set an alarm, have a glass every time you walk past the kitchen – whatever tricks will work for you!
And if planning, shopping and preparing healthy meals during this time is just too much that is okay! We are here to help, with our range of nutritious, healthy and balanced meal options that we can have safely delivered to your door for you and your family to enjoy!
